Quantum Audio Time Stretch (or simply Quantum) is a desktop application for Windows and Mac OS that does only one thing: time stretching audio files.

Quantum is designed to give a good trade-off between audio quality and processing speed.

Which one to choose?

The time-stretching capabilities, the supported audio formats, and the available settings are the same in all versions (KVR Marketplace, Mac App Store or Microsoft Store).

However there are a few differences, mostly related to installation, updates and security. Check the table below for details.

Differences between the KVR versions and the Application Store versions

Installation	The application must be downloaded and installed manually. Then it must be activated using a license key sent by e-mail.	Installation is as simple as any other app from the application store.

Security	Windows: a warning from SmartScreen might be issued during installation. macOS: the application can access all your files.	Windows: no warning during installation. macOS: the application is sandboxed: it can only access files from your Music folder, and files that you explicitely open.
Compatibility	Unofficial versions are available for Linux, Windows 32-bit, Windows 7, and other platforms.	Only available for Windows 10 and 11 (Intel 64 bit), and macOS (Intel 64 bit or Apple Silicon).
License Transfer	The application can be transferred to another computer, another account and/or another operating system using the license key.	The application is attached to your Microsoft or Apple account and can hence by transferred to another computer with the same account. However it cannot be transferred to another account, or to another operating system.
Demo version	A demo version is available. You can download it here.	No demo version is available. While you can download a demo version here, it will behave like the KVR Marketplace version and not like the application store version. Furthermore you must uninstall it before you buy the application store version, or else you will have two versions (with the same name).
Price	Cheaper. Payment is handled by the KVR Marketplace.	More expensive. Payment is handled by Microsoft or Apple.

Features

Time stretch any music, track, speech or sound by any amount between 4 times slower and 4 times faster.
All-purpose audio time stretching with five quality settings:
- Quality 3 (default) gives the best trade-off between quality and speed, and runs faster than real-time on most computers.
- Quality 1 and 2 are very fast and are suitable for speech or quick previews.
- Quality 4 and 5 (maximum) are suitable for more demanding material, like time stretching a complex mix by more than twice or half the speed.
Support mono, stereo and multi-channel (5.1, 7.1) audio files. Fully preserve the stereo / spatial field.
Load and save WAVE (*.wav), AIFF/AIFC (*.aiff, *.aifc) and AU Sun/NeXT (*.au) audio files, in PCM 16 bit / 24 bit integer, or in 32 bit IEEE floating point format. Also load FLAC, OGG, MP3, M4A (AAC and ALAC) and OPUS files.
Support sampling rates from 32 kHz to 192 kHz.
The time stretching factor can be specified in many ways: length change, speed change, length from/to, tempo from/to, video FPS from/to, etc.
Transient detection, with an adjustable transient sensitivity setting.
Transform multiple audio files simultaneously on multi-core computers.
Integrated mini player to preview the result before it is fully transformed.

Limitations of the demo version

The demo version has the following limitations:

Only the first 30 seconds of audio are transformed.
The demo version should not be used for commercial activities.
The demo version will ask you to enter a license key every time you start it, so you need to click on the "Use the Demo Version" button.

Apart from that it is equivalent to the full version.

Download an unofficial version

The following unofficial versions of Quantum are available for other operating systems.
They have not been extensively tested, and no support is provided for them. Use them at your own risks.
Check the installation instructions and known issues.
They run in demo mode. They can be unlocked to run in full mode using a license key from the Windows 64-bit or Mac OS version bought from the KVR Marketplace (you cannot buy a version from the Microsoft Store or from the Mac App Store to unlock an unofficial version).

System requirements

Operating system:
- Windows: Windows 11 or later, Windows 10, Windows 8, Windows 7 (SP 1).
  - The Microsoft Store version is only available for Windows 10 and 11, 64-bit.
- Mac OS: Mac OS X 10.11 "El Capitan" or later (64 bit Intel), or MacOS 11 "Big Sur" or later (Apple M1).
Memory:
- Minimum: 100 - 150 MB available for Quantum, meaning a 256 MB system. This allows transforming four stereo, 48 kHZ audio files at a time (on a computer with at least 4 CPU cores), or one stereo, 192 kHz audio file at a time, both at the maximum quality.
- Recommended: at least 1 GB.
CPU speed: Any, but at least 1 GHz is recommended.
CPU cores: The more cores available, the more files Quantum can process at the same time. Note however that multiple cores will not make the transformation of a single file faster.
Disk: Disk speed is generally not important. Disk capacity must be sufficient to store the original, transformed and temporary (being processed) files.
